Chicken keeping is more popular than ever
More people than ever are keeping their own chickens and Dobbies want you to follow suit.
We’ve put together a list of some of the best chicken-keeping blogs we could find on the web. There’s lots of useful advice including how to choose the right chicken coop, what to feed your chickens and how to care for chicks.
The Hen Cam – Follow the adventures of eight hens on Little Pond Farm as you watch through a live webcam feed on this fantastic site. Lulu, Buffy, Betsy Ross, Coco, Petunia, Marge, Tina Turner and Siouxsie are the stars of the show, which is accompanied with a written commentary on the Hen Cam Blog.
Chicken Keeping Secrets – Got a question to ask about keeping chickens? Get it answered directly on this brilliant blog. There’s a stack of information on offer here, so the odds are your problem has already been solved.
Urban Chickens Blog – Simply put, a blog about anything and everything to do with chicken farming in urban areas. Makes great reading, particularly if you’re a city slicker thinking of keeping live stock.
My City Chickens – Just a normal woman, keeping four chickens in the city of Chicago. There’s lots of practical information on offer, so if you want to learn from someone else’s experiences, this is the chicken keeping blog for you.
Plain Old Chickens – Described as ‘Adventures with a fabulous flock’ this eccentric blog certainly delivers on it’s promise. Funny, original and written by someone who is incredibly passionate about chicken keeping.
Now and Hen – As well as taking the award for the most imaginatively titled blog, Now and Hen also has lots of great content as the author keeps us updated on the life and times of her chickens. A great read.
Green Frieda – Green Frieda isn’t exclusively about chicken keeping, but her blog is so good it just had to be included in the list. Her Random Chicken Wisdom is a particularly brilliant post, which comes highly recommended (from me at least).
Fools Rush In – Grannie Annie has a lot to say about a lot of things, but chicken farming is one of her greatest passions. There’s lots to explore on this fantastic blog and even more to learn.
The Daily Rasorial – Learn exactly why the chicken crossed the road in this brilliant online journal. A straight to the point, very funny and painfully honest account about the ups and downs of chicken keeping.
The Daily Coop – What happens when a girl from Miami and a guy from Chicago move to a 110-year old house in small-town North Carolina and try to raise some chickens? Find out in this superb chicken-inspired blog.
If you know of any other chicken keeping blogs we should add to our list, particularly UK-based blogs, we’d love to hear from you, so make sure you leave a comment or get in touch via the contact form.
