What’s happening at Dobbies Garden Centre Southport?
Dobbies Garden Centre in Southport could become the first garden centre in the UK to allow customers to grow their own vegetables on-site.
The UK has seen a massive surge in the number of people growing their own crops and now Dobbies Southport want to give their customers the opportunity to have their very own allotment, right next door to their favourite garden centre.
An application for planning permission has been submitted and if this is successful, 30 allotments will be rented out from next spring.
Many seem to have embraced self-sufficiency as a means of saving money in difficult economic times and waiting lists for allotments have grown significantly, suggesting this could be a popular addition to Dobbies Garden World Southport.

I took my family to Dobbies Southport last week for Sunday lunch – we had a lovely time browsing around. There is lots of child friendly information so our three boys had a great time too and there was plenty of outdoor space for them to run around and get some fresh air.
And thanks for the free wifi connection – perfect for my Apple IPhone. WiFi is much quicker than 3G!
A very relaxing day.
Thanks
The allotments are a brilliant idea!
