We love reading gardening blogs at Dobbies, as you might have been able to tell from our Gardening Blogs We Love and Gardening Blog of the Week posts.
Here’s a roundup of what’s being blogged about by some of favourite gardening bloggers.
shirls gardenwatch
shirls gardenwatch has long been one of our favourite blogs and the effort that goes into every article is astounding. In her latest post, Shirley talks about the ‘Last Flowers Standing‘ in her amazing garden, with special emphasis on the ‘perennial wallflower Bowles’ Mauve’, which is still going strong despite the winter conditions.
The Patient Gardener’s Weblog
The Patient Gardener is blogging about an impressive public planting at her local library, complimenting the garden designer behind the project and describing how she hopes it will develop in spring. As a side note, there’s a lovely background effect on the blog at the moment, which sends snow drops tumbling down the screen. Perfect for getting us all in the festive mood.
An Artist’s Garden
Karen, the blogger behind an Artist’s Garden, takes stunning pictures to compliment each of her posts and December’s offerings thus far are some of the best. In particular, her ‘Fabulous Day‘ post includes one of the most breathtaking sunsets you’re ever likely to see.
Landscape Juice
With the winter chill now upon us, Landscape Juice have blogged some ‘Winter Maintenance Tips for your Garden Pond‘, which is jam-packed with useful advice and important warnings about the effects of cold weather on your pond. A must-read for all garden pond owners.
Flighty’s Plot
Over on Flighty’s Plot, the man himself has been blogging about the ‘Love Food Hate Waste‘ campaign, talking about the amount of fruit and vegetables that have gone unpicked in neighbouring allotments. It certainly draws attention to an important issue that we should all be aware of.
My Tiny Plot
On the quite brilliant My Tiny Plot, blogger Gill is getting excited about the ‘First Signs of Sprouting Broccoli‘ on her allotment. To be more specific, Purple Sprouting Broccoli, which is the lesser known and much rarer form of the vegetable.
Manor Stables Veg Plot
Over on the Manor Stables Veg Plot, the cold weather is the hot topic (funnily enough). Interestingly, the latest post talks about both the benefits and drawbacks that frost has on a garden over the winter months.

Hi Ian – So glad you liked the sunset picture – we do get the most fabulous skies here on the west coast and that night it was amazing (and not photo shopped!)

I love the first signs of purple sprouting broccoli–what a wonderful idea to be so attuned to even the smallest beauties.
Virginia
Hi again Ian, thanks for your most generous comments about my blog!
I just wanted to pop by and wish you and everyone at the Dobbies Blog all the best for 2010 and to say you’re doing a great job here championing the many great gardening blogs around the UK
BTW despite our heavy snowfall, cold temps and icicles… amazingly ‘Bowles Mauve’ still has purple flowers peeking through the snow!!
