Heat can be controlled better on a gas barbecue
The beauty of gas barbecues is that they are much easier and more convenient to use.
At the touch of a button you are in full control, and can start cooking at a constant heat without waiting for optimum cooking temperatures.
This rather co-operative type of barbecue is particularly obliging if you have a large party of guests to cater for.
Multiple burners also mean that meat, fish and vegetables can be cooked at different temperatures, which is not the case with charcoal barbecues. Most gas barbecues are modular and have facilities such as side burners and worktop space, that allow you to cater for varying food orders from your guests.
Contrary to popular belief, it is still possible to get that barbecue taste from a gas barbecue. Most are heated using metal bars of lava rock and when cooking juices touch them, the smoke produced flavours the food.
Pros
- Easy to clean
- Controlled heat
- Quick and effortless with no preparation time (although some people would argue this is all part of the fun)
- Caters for varied cooking requirements
Cons
- More expensive to buy
- Full size model can’t double up as a portable barbecue
- It doesn’t smoke
- Gas can be more difficult to buy
Using a gas barbecue is convenient and hassle-free, allowing more time to mingle with your guests or play with the kids. Plus, if you’re a bit of a traditionalist you can always buy a barbecue smoker as an add-on to compensate for the lack of authentic barbecue smoke.
