Dobbies, Edinburgh welcomed a very special visitor yesterday, to help encourage customers to think green this Christmas.
Ellie and Erin Leckie were Santa's assistants
Santa Claus himself flew in from the North Pole, to explain the importance of buying real Christmas trees from a Garden Centre like Dobbies, which source their trees from sustainable plantations.
In a brief speech, Santa declared: “Ho Ho Ho, ‘tis the season more than ever for people to become more eco-conscious and do their bit to help the planet over the festive period – because when you buy a real tree from Dobbies, two or three saplings are planted in its place. It’s also important that you recycle your trees once Christmas is over – like myself and Mrs Claus will be doing in January!”
Dobbies is encouraging customers to bring their trees to be recycled into mulch or chippings at any one of its 25 stores throughout the UK after the festive period. You can also download Dobbies free Christmas Tree Care Guide, which gives you tips on picking your Christmas tree and useful advice about caring for it.
In addition to Santa’s visit, Dobbies has also been teaching children at its Little Seedlings Club, a free gardening club for children which meets monthly at selected Dobbies stores across the UK, how to make grow-able Christmas decorations.
The visit of Father Christmas to Dobbies Garden World attracted media attention from around the world, including the BBC, where it was featured as Scotland’s Big Picture‘.
