Rattan furniture is often confused with wicker furniture. The difference is: rattan is the material used to make the furniture, and wicker is the process of weaving and building the furniture.
Furniture described as ‘wicker’ will often use rattan for the frames but may use bamboo or other materials for weaving.
Rattan is particularly suited to conservatory furniture as it’s strong and resilient to humidity and sun exposure (well, it does come from the rainforests).
The natural and soothing shades of browns, blacks and golds are unique characteristics of each piece of rattan furniture and blend in well with any natural décor.
Unlike synthetic furniture rattan is uniquely beautiful. The rich variants of colours are a treat to the eye and add warmth to your conservatory or garden.
Pros: Rattan is strong and resilient to humidity and sun exposure.
Cons: Not suitable for leaving unprotected in the garden.
Buying advice: Rattan is often harvested from rainforests so check that your furniture is from a sustainable source.
