Each year the RSPB asks for volunteers around the country to look out of their windows and make a record of all the birds that visit in the space of one hour.
Over the past 30 years of the Big Garden Birdwatch, 3 million hours of bird spotting have been contributed by people in their homes who have collectively spotted around 6 million birds each year.
With a wide spread of spotters across the UK providing information to the RSPB, they are then able to monitor the number of birds in each region and highlight any declines, which in turn lets them take the first steps to help aid species recovery.
So fill up your bird feeders, give your bird table a scrub and defrost your bird bath. Make your garden an irresistible place for birds to visit. Then sit back and watch the avian antics of your local feathered fauna.
