Gardening Blog of the Week – Shirls Gardenwatch

by Ian Daniels on August 14, 2009

Shirls Gardenwatch is a diary of the goings on in one woman’s garden in Perthshire, Scotland. What makes this blog quite special is the effort that Shirley puts into every post and the detailed way she depicts the extraordinary things she sees.

Flowers, plants and all kinds of wildlife are featured on Shirls Gardenwatch

Every post on this blog is interesting, insightful and jam-packed with visual delights. Expect stunning photography of plants, flowers and the many different creatures that visit Shirley’s garden throughout the year.

Another great strength of Shirls Gardenwatch is it’s simplicity of design. The blog is laid out in a very clear way, making it easy to quickly navigate. The font used is also the perfect size to ensure reading the articles doesn’t strain your eyes. Although this might not sound much, it’s an area in which many blogs fall down.

Shirley also uses her blog to support local environmental causes, which is nice to see and very much adds to the sense of community she’s created. There is also a long list of links to other gardening and wildlife websites she recommends, which is very useful indeed.

The newest feature on Shirls Gardenwatch are her amazing videos, which are added to the blog via her very own channel on YouTube. Here’s just one clip of a prickly little visitor to Shirley’s garden:

Hi again Ian, thanks so much for your very generous comments about my blog and for selecting it for your very first ‘Blog of the Week’! I am most flattered when there are so many excellent blogs to choose from :-D

I would also like to take this opportunity to say in return that you are doing a great job here with the Dobbies Blog. I think the range of topics you are covering is excellent. As you might expect I especially enjoy blogs that refer to encouraging wildlife to the garden :-D

Wishing you a good weekend :-D

A very good choice of Blog of the Week!

I love reading Shirl’s entries, they’re always a brilliant read and an even better excuse for a cuppa!

(btw, I found my way here through Shirl’s shameless plug on her most recent blog entry :) )

A good post on a good blog! Shirl’s blog is one that I visit now and again to enjoy reading all about the wildlife she sees, especially hedgehogs!

Yes, Shirl’s blog is a treat and I see she’s been talking to you behind the scenes re pot recycling etc. It’s good to see something so positive come out of blogging :)
