The last thing you need to be reminded of in the scorching midst of summertime is Xmas.
Sure, everybody loves a bit of the festive spirit, exchanging gifts by the fire and all that, but not in the middle of August! If you want to forget Xmas for now, here’s some things to avoid during the summer:
Sunny Woodland Walks
A leisurely stroll through a forest bustling with the sounds and sights of summer is a joy to behold. Breathe in the woody air and admire the great oaks, sycamores and … Xmas trees!
White Beards
Avoid fishermen, folk singers and wise men and you might be alright. Though stay alert as it only takes one white beard and you’ll hear sleigh bells.
Brussel Sprouts
Beware of the vegetables section in all supermarkets as lurking beneath the summer salad mix are the little green helpers of Xmas. It’s much better to grow your own sprouts by the way.
Souvenir Shops
Enjoy your holidays, but beware of gift shops. There will always be a snow shaker or snow globe hiding somewhere.
Wimbledon
This summer tennis spectacle is as summery as it gets in London, but as regular as expensive strawberries, Mr Xmas himself: Cliff Richard is always in the crowd … ‘Xmas time, mistletoe and wine’ … Arrgghh!
Bandstands
Enjoy a picnic in the park by all means, but stay away from bandstands as they attract brass bands. Brass bands will remind you of Xmas — especially when they play Mistletoe and Wine.
Pickled Stuff
All that is pickled is released onto the world at Xmas, so do yourself a favour and avoid those glass jars if it’s still bright outside at 9pm.
Shop Windows
Independent boutiques sell some lovely stuff if you fancy a good spend, but careful about looking through the windows. Reason being, the window displays tend to be all pretty and creative and regularly use Xmas lights. Although we have to admit Xmas lights do look good during any time of the year.
